A leading international marine group specialising in ship repair, yacht refit, and marine engineering services, operating modern shipyard facilities in Malta with a strong focus on quality, safety, and precision.

Position Summary

The Welder / Burner / Pipe Fitter is responsible for welding, cutting, fabrication, and pipe fitting works on steel, aluminium, stainless steel, and other materials within a shipyard environment.

The role includes fabricating, assembling, installing, repairing, and testing metal structures and pipe systems in line with technical drawings, welding procedures, safety regulations, and quality standards. Strong aluminium welding and fabrication experience is highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out welding, burning/cutting, fabrication, and pipe fitting repairs on structural components and pipework systems.
  • Measure, cut, shape, fit, and assemble metal components for structural and pipework applications.
  • Fabricate and repair steel, aluminium, and stainless-steel parts, pipe spools, and assemblies.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, isometrics, sketches, and work instructions.
  • Prepare materials through cutting, bevelling, grinding, alignment, and tack welding.
  • Perform MIG, TIG, and MMA welding according to approved procedures.
  • Operate welding, oxy-fuel, plasma cutting, and related equipment safely and effectively.
  • Install and repair pipe systems including valves, flanges, bends, supports, and related components.
  • Assist with pressure testing, leak testing, and quality inspections, including defect rectification.
  • Follow all welding procedures, pipe fitting standards, and health & safety regulations.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organised work areas and equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with supervisors, engineers, and other trades to meet project deadlines.

Requirements

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Welder, Burner, Fabricator, and/or Pipe Fitter in shipyard, marine, or heavy industrial environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical and fabrication drawings, including isometrics.
  • Strong aluminium welding and fabrication experience is essential.
  • Good knowledge of steel, stainless steel, and aluminium materials and processes.
  • Practical pipe fitting experience, including installation and alignment of pipe systems.
  • Proficiency in MIG, TIG, and MMA welding.
  • Welding certification required; pipe fitting qualifications considered an asset.
  • Experience with oxy-fuel and plasma cutting is an advantage.
  • Ability to work safely in shipyard conditions, including confined spaces and at height.
  • Strong team player with ability to work independently when required.
  • Strong commitment to health & safety and quality standards.
