Payment Clearing Specialist

Position Summary
The Payments Clearing Specialist is responsible for monitoring payment processing performance across multiple markets and payment providers, ensuring optimal clearing rates, identifying operational issues, and supporting the continuous improvement of payment processes. The role works closely with internal teams and external payment providers to ensure stable, efficient, and scalable payment operations.
Key Responsibilities
Payment Processing & Monitoring
- Monitor payment processing performance across multiple markets, brands, and payment providers.
- Track clearing rates and analyse payment performance by country, provider, merchant identification number, and payment flow.
- Monitor technical failures and recurring processing issues.
- Track payment provider usage and identify opportunities for optimisation.
- Escalate technical issues and coordinate with relevant teams until resolution.
- Provide payment clearing support to internal teams.
- Assist with payment account configuration and ensure operational readiness.
- Record and report payment-related incidents involving cards and electronic wallets.
Operations & Stakeholder Management
- Support operational teams with merchant queries related to payments and payouts.
- Liaise with payment service providers, banking partners, and third-party processors regarding operational matters.
- Assist Back Office and Reconciliation teams with payment-related cases.
- Follow up on new payment service providers, supported currencies, and payment features.
- Participate in payment page and customer relationship management improvement initiatives.
- Attend regular operational meetings and provide updates on payment performance.
- Provide ad hoc support for operational issues and new payment initiatives.
Analysis & Continuous Improvement
- Monitor industry trends and regulatory developments affecting payment operations.
- Research best practices and recommend improvements to payment processes.
- Identify opportunities to improve payment acceptance and clearing performance.
- Prepare reports and performance analysis for internal stakeholders.
- Deliver internal training sessions and presentations when required.
Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a similar role, preferably within an online payments environment.
- Good understanding of payment gateways, payment service providers, merchant identification numbers, acquiring, and payment processing flows.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience delivering presentations or training sessions will be considered an advantage.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Experience with business intelligence or reporting tools will be considered an asset.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality work.
- Availability to work between 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. (Malta time), with occasional shifts from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
