Job Description:

Our client, a leading organisation within the ship repair and marine engineering industry, is seeking an experienced Plate Shop Foreman to join their Malta-based operations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and supervising steel fabrication and plate processing activities within the workshop, ensuring all works are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with technical specifications, quality standards, and project deadlines.

This role is essential in supporting ship repair, refit, and structural steel projects by leading fabrication teams and ensuring smooth day-to-day workshop operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and supervise plate shop and steel fabrication activities.
  • Oversee cutting, forming, fitting, and assembly of steel structures and components.
  • Assign tasks and manage the daily activities of fabrication teams.
  • Monitor work progress and ensure compliance with project schedules and deadlines.
  • Review and interpret technical drawings, fabrication plans, and project specifications.
  • Supervise structural repair and steel replacement works during ship repair and refit projects.
  • Ensure all fabrication activities meet quality standards and technical requirements.
  • Coordinate closely with Production, Project Management, Quality, and HSE departments.
  • Manage workshop resources, equipment, and manpower efficiently.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and company procedures.
  • Identify and resolve operational issues to maintain productivity and workflow continuity.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, steel fabrication, or a similar industrial environment.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory or foreman role within a workshop or fabrication setting.
  • Strong knowledge of steel structures, fabrication techniques, and shipyard operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Experience working on ship repair, refit, or marine engineering projects.
  • Good understanding of health and safety regulations in industrial environments.
  • Strong leadership, planning, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
  • Strong communication and team coordination skills.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
